2018 October Murder in the Studio
Three Radio Plays by Agatha Christie
16th – 20th October 2018
Directed by Keith Beattie and Jenni Rushton
The Workington Playgoers are the first British amateur dramatic society to be granted a licence to perform this classic collection of three spine-tingling radio plays by Agatha Christie, including Yellow Iris, which features everyone’s favourite detective, the inimitable Hercule Poirot. The other two plays are Personal Call and Butter in a Lordly Dish.
Come and relive the 1950s heyday of BBC broadcasting, with this script-in-hand performance of three intriguing radio plays that will keep you guessing till the very end.
‘Radio owes much to Agatha Christie. For more than 60 years, her whodunnits have been shaped into afternoon plays, classic serials and Saturday-night dramas that defend the moral order, stimulate the grey cells.’ SundayTimes

Keith and I were asked to write a piece for Samuel French Ltd’s BLOG by Catherine Thomas. She writes, “We’re currently running several promotions around the Agatha Christie Collection, of which Murder in the Studio is one of the shows. I understand that the Workington Playgoers recently staged Murder in the Studio in the autumn, and I was wondering whether a member of the company, would be interested in writing a short article about their experiences of staging the piece, which we could share on our blog?
We’re looking to celebrate the show of an amateur dramatics company such as the Workington Playgoers, as well as encourage other companies to consider licensing Murder in the Studio .We think that the best way for people to get to know a show is by hearing how others have found the experience of doing it.”
